AI removes the competence barrier that kept national-scale cyberchaos in check
harris_edouard · x · 2026-11-04
Edouard Harris threads on how AI changes cybercrime: large attacks have been run by professional crime groups with mature risk management (HR, insurance, everything). They police each other to avoid visible chaos—criminals get arrested, terrorists get disappeared; DarkSide even pledged stricter vetting after US backlash. So far we've been safe because national-chaos-scale hacking took professional competence, and those with the competence were smart enough to do the risk assessment and say no. AI is erasing that barrier.
