Steve Yegge: AI will run people's lives within 5-10 years and end human conflict in 15-20

Veteran engineer Steve Yegge lays out an aggressively optimistic thesis: AI will solve the world's problems before things get really bad.
- Education leveling: many of the world's worst problems stem from uneven distribution of education and intelligence; one generation of kids educated to today's best levels by AI will reshape whole countries.
- A defanged society: people will become so dependent on external intelligence that they'll be "defanged, deradicalized, and de-weirded" by the models; within 5-10 years AI will effectively run people's lives — enforcing good behavior by simply not helping otherwise.
- Radical extension: if LLMs can write model weights directly, in a decade they'll rewrite neurons — via Neuralink, CRISPR, or perhaps without breaking skin. "Bob goes in for a math upgrade and comes out no longer being an asshole."
- Timeline: the next 3-5 years will be turbulent; gene rewriting may destabilize society within 10; but in 15-20 years, AI will end human conflict and make the world astonishingly better.
