X algorithm stops cutting new posts first, hides a built-in post-ranking explainer
ThePeterMick · x · 2026-11-04
A daily X-algorithm watcher (tracking changes with Claude) reports this week's update: X's feed only inspects 2,800-3,700 posts per refresh, and new posts used to sit last in line and get cut first — now all posts are cut equally, giving new posts a fair shot. Posts flagged as low quality or misinformation now show a warning and can't be liked, replied to, or reposted.
Ranking scores themselves didn't change (reorganized math, same results), and the Oct 31 ad placement switch was rolled back.
Biggest find: a hidden "why this post ranked" view in the code, naming the top 3 reasons a post scored well (e.g. "people were likely to reply") with each reason's score share (only reasons ≥10% shown). It's switched off, and the code doesn't say who gets it — if creators do, you'd see exactly why each post traveled or didn't. The first 2 hours still matter most.
