mcptunnel: open-source tool wraps stdio MCP servers into HTTP endpoints
flrngel · reddit · 2026-11-04
The author released mcptunnel (MIT-licensed), which gives existing stdio MCP servers a Streamable HTTP endpoint without code changes.
- Usage: mcptunnel -- <mcp-command> exposes the server at http://localhost:8000/<server-name>.
- Localhost by default with Basic auth and tool allow/deny lists; --public adds a temporary Cloudflare HTTPS tunnel. Multiple servers share one port at distinct paths.
- Native binaries for macOS/Linux/Windows.
- Known limits: Quick Tunnels lack SSE, and each operation starts a fresh process under protocol 2026-07-28, so in-memory state doesn't persist.
Useful for HTTP-only clients talking to stdio-only servers or sharing temporary dev endpoints.
