A PRISMA living systematic review that reruns monthly, with frozen protocol and open code
maier_ak · x · 2026-11-04
Andreas Maier built the Active Matter Living Review, a PRISMA 2020 systematic review designed to be rerun monthly, tackling the problem that reviews go stale on publication day.
- Discipline first: the protocol was frozen before the first screening decision with SHA-256 fingerprints, registered retrospectively on OSF; every change is a dated amendment and earlier text is never edited.
- Eight databases: searches span OpenAlex, Crossref, arXiv, bioRxiv, PubMed, IEEE Xplore, HAL and NASA ADS, with query strings, timestamps, record counts and response hashes logged per run.
- Fully open: MIT-licensed code, CC BY text, all screening votes public; readers can add missed papers via pull request.
- The author invites anyone to fork the setup and build a living review for their own field.
