Jeff Dean leaves Google after 27 years; Khosla co-leads Discovery Loop for parallel AI science
AccBalanced · x · 2026-11-04
Jeff Dean, along with Sanjay Ghemawat, Oriol Vinyals, and Quoc Le, has founded Discovery Loop, a Public Benefit Corporation aiming to automate machine learning, science, and engineering. Khosla Ventures' Samir Kaul revealed they co-led the investment.
Kaul explained the bet: the team is building toward AI that designs experiments, gets results in real time, and continuously spins up thousands of parallel follow-on experiments. He drew a parallel to genome sequencing — 7-10 years and over $1 billion in the late '90s versus $100 by lunch today — arguing that adding full AI into the mix will accelerate scientific progress even further.
