Binance's $7B hack reportedly started with a tampered Homebrew install during vibe coding

Allegedly a $7B loss from Binance's October 29 security incident, with the full attack chain now circulating:
- June: An engineer downloading a tampered Homebrew install while looking for an AI coding tool (supply chain attack). Binance caught it and rotated credentials, but the attacker learned who was on the wallet team.
- September: Another engineer fell for a fake job interview via a job platform; after two rounds of trust-building, he downloaded an "assignment" with malware that swapped a legitimate pyenv file using a 0-day endpoint security missed.
- Oct 20: The attacker pivoted through that machine into an internal AI tool, gaining control of two more engineers, one holding a container deployment token.
- Oct 29: They used the stolen token to deploy a container and run a script against the wallet signing service.
A textbook multi-stage chain of supply-chain poisoning, social engineering, and lateral movement — a stark warning for developer supply-chain security in the vibe coding era.
