Why AI agents optimize Go code better than Rust: domain expertise still steers the loop
unixterminal · x · 2026-11-04
A thread on language choice in the AI era. Richard Artoul argues that AI agents are only as useful as your ability to steer them: with 10 years of Go performance work, he can correct the agent and pull it out of local minima while optimizing a Go program — but with Rust he'd be stuck saying "make it faster" until it lands somewhere dumb.
Another developer adds that after a Rust phase he remembered he knows C#: .NET offers near-Rust performance, cross-platform support, nicer syntax, a great BCL, and strong frameworks — he's happily building Linux apps with AvaloniaUI.
Takeaway: AI-assisted coding rewards languages you can personally judge and debug, not just the trendiest ones.
