BIOS ports RFD4-Proteina to Mac: local protein binder design 2.2x faster with MLX
AllThingsApx · x · 2026-11-04
BIOS has ported its RFD4-Proteina protein-design model to run locally on Macs, built with MLX and custom Metal kernels.
- Generation is 2.2x faster than stock PyTorch-MPS at default precision
- Demo: 20 designs generated and screened into 10 ranked candidates for GLP-1R in 12 minutes on an M5 Pro
- After setup the workflow runs fully offline; researchers can iterate locally with privacy, then scale to NVIDIA GPUs
