Google will turn off Search for schools that reject AI entirely
gnukeith · x · 2026-11-04
Per NYT, Google said it will disable AI tools in its K-12 education software by default early next year unless administrators opt in. The catch: schools that block AI entirely also lose Google Search, since 'search and AI are deeply integrated' (VP Chris Phillips). With Gmail, Docs, Classroom and Chromebooks ubiquitous in US classrooms, schools face a stark choice between accepting AI and losing search, drawing accusations of leveraging a monopoly.
