OpenAI details Codex for hardware engineering, KOL says AI will kill 'hardware taxes'
silver__tsuki · x · 2026-11-04
OpenAI shared progress on ChatGPT and Codex helping engineers build for the physical world across mechanical design, electrical engineering, and simulation—speeding up its own hardware teams and testing workflows with industry collaborators. Reposting, K-Scale founder benjaminbolte argued the real story is killing "software taxes": instead of buying generic SaaS, you build bespoke versions that are cheaper and better-fit. He says this dynamic is magnified in hardware, where prototyping network effects create many "hardware taxes" and there's never been a real open-source movement—"next few months are going to be pretty exciting."
