Playwright team: don't delete us — MCP/CLI run your stable Chrome, not bundled browsers
Kyrannio · x · 2026-11-04
Responding to a post claiming Playwright bundles browsers with CVEs and should be deleted, the Playwright team clarifies the misconception: no Playwright package bundles a browser.
- Playwright MCP or CLI agents run your machine's stable Chrome/Edge, which receives normal Chrome security updates with the sandbox on — no config changes needed.
- The test runner downloads pinned Chrome for Testing builds via npx playwright install, deliberately so tests stay reproducible across laptops and CI and browser auto-updates can't break your suite; you upgrade when you upgrade Playwright.
Bottom line: don't delete Playwright — each usage mode has its own browser update strategy.
