Per The New York Times, Google will turn off Search entirely for schools that opt out of its AI features. Schools cannot disable AI Overviews or AI Mode on their own — now rejecting AI means losing Search altogether.
The move is drawing criticism as forced bundling that leaves educational institutions no way to decline AI in their search product.
