Enterprise AI's real blockers: context, authority, and governed change — not models
luisdans · x · 2026-11-04
Karthikeyan Natarajan argues that McKinsey's "second brain" vision stumbles on three neglected layers in most enterprise AI deployments:
- Knowledge ≠ context: feeding an AI every policy and contract doesn't mean it knows which applies to today's decision — buying a better model doesn't fix this.
- Intelligence ≠ permission: an agent can fully understand procurement rules yet still shouldn't commit budgets or modify purchase orders without a human in the loop; most deployments blur that line.
- Continuous improvement ≠ governed change: who decides what the AI learns from, approves workflow changes, and grants agents more autonomy?
His conclusion: organizations are building the intelligence layer before sorting out governance, authority, and context underneath it.
