Google lets schools disable AI tools, but only by giving up Search too
TechCrunch AI · rss · 2026-11-04
TechCrunch reports that Google will let schools opt out of its AI tools entirely — but since AI features are now integrated into the search engine, schools that restrict AI will also lose access to Google Search.
The bundling is drawing criticism: there's no real either/or choice between rejecting AI and keeping a core research tool, effectively forcing AI into classrooms.
