Prediction market roundtable: insurance, AI trading, manipulation and market design
devanshmehta · x · 2026-11-03
devanshmehta of Seer PM recaps the first roundtable at the Prediction Market Hub, run interactively rather than as talks:
- Growth: insurance is seen as the biggest target, though one panelist noted PMs' value is discovering odds rather than underwriting; decentralized insurance is a promising path. AI makes submitting markets cheap enough for decision-filtering, but the hard part is a lack of existing traders for niche markets.
- Manipulation: insider trading that deters real traders; flawed resolution criteria/oracles (e.g. Brazil's election where 80%+ predicted Bolsonaro and lost); "reality benders" betting to raise an outcome's actual probability.
- Structure: binary markets settle 0/1 — traders want scalar markets paying by proximity; conditional market combos can be capital-efficient since only the resolving market determines P&L.
Five more roundtables follow over the next three days.
