blender-kiln 3.0: open-source Claude Code plugin turns photos into 3D-printed Blender models
elithril31 · reddit · 2026-11-03
After seven months of development, the author released blender-kiln — an MIT-licensed Claude Code plugin that drives Blender via MCP, building 3D models from a sentence or a photo for games, web, AR, or 3D printing.
Highlights
- Quantified evals: models from photos are scored against the real object — 0.948 on an ammo box, 0.888 on a lantern, 0.729 on a gothic chair (1 = identical). Every release runs a benchmark against the previous one on both Blender MCP servers, results published on the bench-results branch.
- Real-world validation: four print-oriented models came off a Bambu Lab P1S exactly as exported.
- New in 3.0 — Kiln Studio: a local page managing every model in your project; pin notes ("the hammer is too small") and Claude fixes it in its own Blender, with before/after comparison and variations. It also rigs and animates characters (22 ready-made moves).
- Built with Claude Code end to end: Claude wrote the plugin, and the plugin is Claude driving Blender.
