A hobbyist shows off a DIY homelab: to avoid pricey rails, he built a wooden rack housing two DL380s and two DL360s — 40 cores, 80 threads and over 1TB of DDR3 RAM on 14-year-old servers. The whole setup, lumber included, cost about $640; his first ramp test hit 63 concurrent VMs, and he now keeps VM images/snapshots in RAM for blazing-fast loads.
