Interactive map charts Britain's AI for Science organisational landscape
ersatzben · x · 2026-11-03
Science Works launched "Britain's AI for Science Landscape", an interactive map charting UK organisations built around AI-enabled science, the infrastructure they run on, and the programmes and funders bringing AI into research.
Key points:
- It's a guide to the ecosystem's organisations, not a census of research—it excludes labs that merely use AI
- New organisations and programmes have been founded at a steadily rising rate for a decade; recent yearly averages are almost double earlier ones (recent years are lower bounds as new entities take time to identify)
- The map supports colouring by organisation type, main funder, or field, with accompanying data stories
- It's a living resource with open submission of corrections and additions
Note: the map isn't available on phones; data stories are best viewed on a laptop.
