Developer turns iPhone's unused LiDAR into a room-to-3D-world scanner with coding AI
thisguyknowsai · x · 2026-11-03
Wes Bos built 3D Model Anything, an app that puts the long-idle LiDAR laser on iPhone Pro to work: walk around a room and the laser measures everything in view, with on-screen triangles showing red (needs photos) or green (covered).
The scan is handed to a coding AI, which rebuilds the room as a 3D world viewable in the browser — Bos recreated his own office down to the 3D printers and shelves, with objects laid out like a toy catalog.
- Works on LiDAR-equipped iPhones and iPads
- You build the app yourself on a Mac; the AI needs a few rounds to get it right
