Vantage: open-source Windows app lets AI agents drive your real desktop, 80-step task in ~8 min
AKGAMING1234 · reddit · 2026-11-03
A Reddit user released Vantage, an open-source Windows 11 app where you type a task and an AI model carries it out on your actual desktop: it sees the screen, clicks and types, reads windows via Windows UI Automation, and can run PowerShell.
- Demo: one prompt had it open seven Wikipedia articles in Edge, read infobox figures, convert units in Calculator, save a file per mountain in Notepad, read system details from Settings, and write a sorted summary — 80 steps, 8 minutes with Gemini 3.8 Flash.
- Design focus is reading rather than guessing: it reads actual window text instead of relying on screenshots and won't type numbers it hasn't read; it respects explicit tool requests and won't touch your open tabs or clipboard.
- Bring-your-own API key for any image-capable OpenAI-compatible provider; everything stored locally with keys encrypted via Windows DPAPI.
- Windows-only and early-stage: it acts without asking before each step, and results depend heavily on the model.
