Aider, the 50k-star pioneer that predated Claude Code, sees 6 months of silence
RobertTLange · x · 2026-11-03
RobertTLange reflects on aider's rise and stall: back in mid-2024, when VS Code autocomplete was the norm, aider already shipped a TUI, a clean Python SDK (used in AI Scientist v1), voice mode, and clever engineering for context management and repo mapping — details still worth reading. Its Polyglot benchmark (exercism-based) kickstarted many coding-agent self-improvement projects. Yet as of Nov 2026 the 50k-star repo has had no commits on main for 6 months; the author hopes history remembers this precursor to Claude Code/Codex/OpenCode.
