Survey: 95% of APAC Leaders Claim They Can Explain AI Decisions, Only Half Can

A Sumsub and Singapore FinTech Association survey of 720 senior leaders across nine APAC markets exposes a confidence-competence gap in AI governance:
- 95% claim they can explain an AI decision, but only about half can reconstruct how it was made; just 38% keep tamper-proof audit trails
- 63% have experienced an autonomous AI action producing unintended outcomes; 92% widened their AI's scope in the past year
- Financial services leads all sectors: 68% keep audit trails, yet only 41% are tamper-proof
Rich Turrin's takeaway: AI adoption is stuck in its "teenage phase" — big on confidence, short on accountability — with mounting regulatory and trust risks as AI acts more autonomously.
