The Daily News, The New York Times, and Tribune-affiliated papers (Chicago Tribune, Orlando Sentinel, etc.) filed federal lawsuits in Manhattan accusing Brave Software of using scraping tools to plunder exclusive news stories and resell them to AI companies including Anthropic and Perplexity.
The complaint calls Brave both a "burglar" appropriating publisher content and an AI "fence" selling stolen goods, alleging it offers a paywall-circumventing back door to its own users and prominent generative AI companies to help build their businesses.
