AEO blind spot: delisting a feature won't stop AI answers citing it
lilyraynyc · x · 2026-11-03
AEO/GEO practitioner Harpreet Chatha highlights an under-discussed problem: when you want to quietly sunset a product feature, simply removing the page (410/404/301) isn't enough — AI engines will still cite the feature, because competitor listicles mention it, knowledge-base docs circulate, people posted about it on Reddit/LinkedIn/X, and it's in training data. His fix: scrub mentions from your own site, publish an FAQ saying the feature has evolved and been integrated into feature X on a related page, and update older articles to match. SEO expert Lily Ray endorsed the advice.
