VeriCUA: Google & HKU turn CUA verification into agentic exploration (arXiv 2610.40578)

Google and HKU's VeriCUA (arXiv 2610.40578, Qiushi Sun et al.) is a platform-agnostic verification framework for computer-using agents.
- Problem: data curation, evals and RL for CUAs need reliable completion verification; VLM judges are limited to supplied observations and generated scripts to accessible state, so both can miss decisive evidence
- Method: verification as dynamic evidence gathering — inspect context to build a task rubric, select GUI or code checks for unresolved requirements, combine findings under explicit evidence rules; one shared procedure for online/offline across platforms
- Results: better agreement with reference labels than baselines across settings, largest offline gains on hard cases, stronger online rejection of false completion claims
The agent's own success claim never counts as proof — check saved machine state.
