Four Frontier AI Models Back at Least a 10-Year Pause on the ASI Race
robbensinger · x · 2026-11-03
Rob Bensinger shared his full write-up: across three separate incognito chats with memory and personalization off, Astra (ChatGPT), Fable 5.0, Fable 5.1, and Opus 5.5 were asked whether they would push a button to immediately pause the race to vastly superhuman AI — halting stronger training chips and efficiency research, but not rolling back existing models or banning narrow AI like biomedical research systems.
All four supported an immediate 10+ year pause, with ranges from 10 to 18 years; Opus 5.5 proposed a segmented schedule (20-year pause, 3 years open, then 5 more). He posted the full prompt, though replies argue the framing itself may steer models toward endorsing a pause.
