Poll: Four Frontier AI Models All Vote for an Immediate 10+ Year Pause on ASI

Rob Bensinger polled Astra, Fable 5.0, Fable 5.1, and Opus 5.5 three times each, in incognito mode with memory off, on whether they would push a button to immediately pause the race to ASI — freezing ASI-relevant compute and algorithmic progress, without rolling back current models or banning narrow progress like biomedical research AI.
All four models voted for an immediate 10+ year pause:
- 10 years (2027-2037): 4 votes (Astra x3, Fable 5.1 x1)
- 13 years: 1 vote (Fable 5.0)
- 15 years: 2 votes (Fable 5.1)
- Opus 5.5 proposed the most elaborate schedule: a 20-year pause, then 1 year of progress, then further pauses running to 2044.
He also shared the full prompt, and replies noted the framing itself may nudge models toward favoring a pause.
