Goertzel counters Altman's idle-RAM take with decentralized compute networks
bengoertzel · x · 2026-11-03
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called it "quite terrible" that scarce memory chips sit idle in home PCs, estimating they use their RAM only 5% of the time—drawing wide pushback, including a meme from Elon Musk.
ASI Alliance CEO Ben Goertzel agrees idle memory is waste but argues it needn't all flow to big server farms: people should rent out spare laptop memory and compute via decentralized networks for tokens, pointing to NuNet (live since March, spun out of SingularityNET) and the alliance's ASI:Chain, yet to reach mainnet.
