ToolVet: 39.9% of 134,916 paid APIs and MCP servers failed latest check, up from 12.8%
BudgetBon · reddit · 2026-11-03
ToolVet's weekly report (26 Oct–1 Nov 2026), based on unpaid live test calls to paid x402 APIs and remote MCP servers it lists, found 39.9% of 134,916 listings failed their latest check — up from 12.8% the week before.
Other findings:
- 27,244 listings added (23,797 paid APIs, 3,447 MCP servers); 4,715 first-time providers
- Only 1.4% (625) of 43,207 paid APIs with usage data had 10+ paying wallets in 30 days
- 3,260 listings changed price at least once; 1,406 charge more than advertised
- 280 listings carry agent-steering prompt-injection text, which ToolVet withholds
- 767 listings across 85 hosts switched payout wallets
Takeaway for the agent ecosystem: the paid tool market is exploding in quantity while quality and honesty deteriorate fast — real paid adoption is minuscule, and hidden price hikes and injection text are already at scale.
