Future of Life Institute's legal strategist David Atkinson, joined by 15 other signers, has filed an amicus brief supporting the NYT's motion for summary judgment in its copyright case against OpenAI and Microsoft (S.D.N.Y., No. 1:25-md-03143).
The brief argues AI companies shouldn't get exemptions courts would never extend to humans, and that authors, artists and journalists must all respect copyright — the AI industry should play by the same rules.
