Unofficial Crunchyroll MCP server ships 19 tools with browser-mediated sign-in
Pleasant-Today-6584 · reddit · 2026-11-03
A developer open-sourced an unofficial Crunchyroll MCP server (TypeScript stdio, MIT, v0.1.0) with 19 of 21 tools working, forked from StrikerLabs' mcp-crunchyroll.
- Catalog: search, browse with filters, simulcast seasons, episode details, recommendations
- Account reads/writes: watchlist, watch history, playheads
- Security design is the highlight: login happens in a managed Chromium profile by the user (captcha included), credentials never appear as tool arguments, requests go through a fixed CDP operation set, and unknown-outcome writes return MUTATIONOUTCOMEUNKNOWN instead of blind retries
- Limits: relies on unofficial internal endpoints, no playback/DRM bypass, needs Node 18+
The author discloses most code, tests and docs were written with AI coding agents (Codex and Claude).
