YC resurfaced a 2012 email where Boosted Boards' Sanjay Dastoor asked Eric Migicovsky whether YC suited hardware startups — equity/time commitment, weekly meetups and Demo Day were yes, but the investor and mentor networks were not hardware-friendly. Today the answers are all yes: 25% of YC startups build hardware, and YC's new Request for Startups explicitly targets supply chains, machines, robots, data centers and aerospace, with applications due the same day.
