Cursor quietly charges a token fee for non-grok model calls, user's bill reveals
letandrewcook · x · 2026-11-03
A Cursor user discovered a charge he didn't know existed: on top of model usage costs (gpt-5.6-sol-medium $1,603.63, claude-opus-5-5-medium $675.32, grok-4.7-high $523.63), his bill shows separate "Cursor token fee for token-based-call" line items — $454.04 for gpt-5.6-sol-medium and $316.06 for claude-opus-5-5-medium.
In other words, calls to models outside the grok family incur an extra token-based platform fee, while grok models are exempt. This materially changes the cost math for multi-model setups in Cursor and is worth factoring into model choice.
