Dan Roy quits JMLR editorial board, arguing AI reviews now beat rushed human ones
srchvrs · x · 2026-11-02
Dan Roy has fully resigned from JMLR's editorial board, arguing that AI reviews by top models are now much better than time-pressed human reviewers and that one-time accept/reject gatekeeping no longer makes sense — the literature should be rethought as a distributed data structure. Search researcher srchvrs pushes back: humans assisted by LLMs still outperform end-to-end AI reviews; treating papers like GitHub PRs works only in well-automated fields and will take a long time to mature, so classic papers, tech reports and blogs aren't going away soon.
