Apple proposes online RL framework training UI navigation agents on live iOS apps
Apple ML Research · rss · 2026-11-02
Apple ML Research published a new paper addressing two pain points in UI navigation agents: frontier VLMs are too costly for everyday use, while smaller models trained via SFT or offline RL memorize static trajectories and fail to recover from errors. The proposed online reinforcement learning framework trains agents directly on live iOS applications, decoupling the agent into specialized Planning and Grounding components for more robust execution. Full method details are in the paper.
