Haskell veteran: agents make it too easy to let implementations settle unresolved design questions
charles_irl · x · 2026-11-02
Engineer @aymannadeem, who wrote Haskell professionally from 2017–2020, shares the habit it taught her: reason about what must be true of a program before worrying about implementation — a type error was often really an unanswered design question.
She warns that agents now generate convincing implementations before those questions are resolved, blurring the line between an unresolved design and a final decision. That's why she's building Nuanced Canvas: agents that help interrogate assumptions and deepen understanding of a system, rather than letting an implementation prematurely settle the design.
