Sketchy v0.1.6: AI diagrams use 29% fewer output tokens than plain text
Nkgsporty · reddit · 2026-11-02
The developer of Sketchy, a tool that lets Claude explain concepts with interactive hand-drawn diagrams in chat, shipped v0.1.6 after benchmarking token usage.
- With Sonnet in Claude Code, Sketchy averaged 686 output tokens vs 962 for plain text — about 29% fewer, and slightly cheaper ($0.58 vs $0.61)
- The first diagram still costs a bit more, so savings depend on conversation length
- Follow-up edits now keep existing nodes in place even when adding back-edges, making it easier to explore a codebase
- Free and open source, available as a Claude chat skill or an MCP extension
