Vercel open-sources agent-desktop: 7.9k-star Rust tool gives agents reliable computer use via accessibility trees
abhishek__AI · x · 2026-11-02
Vercel Labs released agent-desktop, a Rust-built open-source project (7.9k GitHub stars) that gives AI agents reliable desktop computer use.
- Instead of pixel guessing, it reads apps' real UI structure through OS accessibility trees (macOS AX API, Windows UI Automation, Linux AT-SPI), keeping element references stable and actions safe to retry.
- Works on macOS, Windows, and Linux, without stealing window focus and with no pixel matching.
- Ships a CLI (one JSON envelope per call) and a C FFI library, supports MCP, Apache-2.0 licensed.
