Your MCP error messages are UX copy: lessons from ChatGPT plugin's first users
eric_pineprompt · reddit · 2026-11-02
Pineprompt shares a lesson from its ChatGPT plugin (remote MCP server behind OAuth): in week one, both new users got stuck when a quota error — "You've reached your plan's limit for prompts (0)" — was relayed nearly verbatim by ChatGPT: true but useless, with no reason, next step, or link. Fixes: domain errors now state the user's actual situation ("this organization doesn't have an active plan") with the exact fix URL; wording assumes the reader may not be the account owner since only owners can change billing; the fix lives in the one place that decides quota, not in each tool. The general point: in MCP the model is the UI and reads your exceptions aloud — write them for users, not logs.
