Persistent chat history isn't long-term memory: lessons from Spring AI
therealdanvega · x · 2026-11-02
The author distinguishes two often-conflated concepts: persistent chat history and long-term user memory are not the same job.
In Spring AI he treats them separately: keep the message history for follow-up questions within a conversation, while persisting useful user facts for future conversations. A database alone doesn't bridge that gap.
