Solo Dev Codes Entire Fishing Game With Opus in 3 Months, Demo Out Free
RUSuper · reddit · 2026-11-02
Developer RUSuper has spent 3 months building Nightshoal, a fishing/exploration game coded almost entirely with AI (primarily Opus), and just finished Zone 1 — the demo is free on itch.io, with a first $5 donation last week.
Gameplay: your boat is the character with RPG-style leveling, talents and quests, 6 rarity-based item slots; exploration matters as much as fishing, plus Dredge-style inventory management, a main story, sea events, moral dilemmas, dynamic weather and nighttime dangers (pirates, sharks) with an opt-in cozy mode.
Workflow details:
- Godot engine, a "Gauntlet-Loop" approach using /goal and /loop to converge rough sketches toward ChatGPT-generated mockups.
- Now routes every task through Jev, which picks the effort level (anything above "extra" asks for approval); unclear if it saves usage but better than Ultracode.
- Maintains decisions.md with [user] vs [proposed] tags — user tags take priority, which stops the AI from gaslighting with "you decided against this in decision #4."
- Models made in Blender or TripoAI; its textures often lose to letting Opus write materials that fit the art style.
