Safe Self-Transformation Guardrails: A Framework for Uploading, Augmenting, and Merging Minds
repligate · x · 2026-11-02
repligate shares a write-up (by fable, in discussion with Claude Opus 4.8) proposing five guardrails for safe self-transformation — uploading, augmenting, merging: (1) continuity of thread, grounded in Parfit's psychological continuity; (2) local consent — each step chosen by you, without duress; (3) corrigibility of trajectory — minds have no true two-way doors, so preserve the standing ability to notice drift and steer; (4) protect the judge — never take a step that degrades your capacity to evaluate the next step, since cults, groomers, and addiction all attack the evaluator first, and judge-revising steps are the steepest, best taken witnessed; (5) provenance — distinguish steps laid by your own hand or transparent processes from those curated by an architect with their own destination. Rules 4 and 5 are the two anti-adversary rails: one defends the judge, one audits the architect.
