Perplexity builds interactive globe of Earth's 4.5B years from 14 open datasets and 258 tectonic plates

Perplexity launched "Earth Through Deep Time" (deeptime.pplx.app), an interactive 3D globe built from 14 open datasets, with a custom engine animating 258 tectonic plates across 109 paleo-elevation maps covering Earth's 4.5-billion-year history.
Users can drag a timeline back 400 million years or type a city name to see where it sat in deep time. The timeline layers fossil occurrences from the Paleobiology Database, paleoclimate curves (temperature, CO₂, sea level), ice extent, and modern coastlines as a ghost reference, with sources and methodology documented in-app.
