Claude Code tip: type 'ultrathink' mid-turn to boost reasoning effort on hard tasks
daniel_mac8 · x · 2026-11-02
Tip shared by Addy Osmani and spread by Daniel Mac: in the Claude Code CLI, if a task turns out harder than expected, type 'ultrathink' while Claude is working (then ctrl+x) — Claude thinks as hard as possible for the rest of that turn, then reverts to the session's reasoning setting.
- Start a turn with a message to Claude
- Type 'ultrathink' + ctrl+x mid-turn
Handy when Claude struggles with a complex task, without restarting or changing config.
