kimo: a GUI-free MIT video editor driven by AI agents over MCP in one 15MB Rust binary
LieTop7965 · reddit · 2026-11-02
A college student open-sourced kimo, a video editor with deliberately no GUI: AI agents drive every edit (cut, trim, keyframes, captions, color grading, tracking, particles, audio, export) as MCP tool calls, and it can render single frames back so the agent can see its work. MIT-licensed, single CPU-only 15MB Rust binary that runs on a 2GB box with no GPU. Author admits it's rough: unhelpful errors, edge cases with long timelines and codec combos, evolving MCP surface.
