Paper2Agent in Nature turns research papers into interactive AI agents
udmrzn · x · 2026-11-02
A Stanford team led by James Zou published Paper2Agent in Nature: a framework that converts a paper's manuscript, data, code and workflows into an AI agent acting as a "virtual corresponding author."
- Builds an MCP server via multi-agent analysis of the paper and codebase, then auto-generates and runs tests to ensure reliability.
- Use cases: ask questions about the method, reproduce analyses from public code, apply methods to your own data.
- Results: successfully agent-ized 74 of 100 computational biology papers; papers with insufficient code/data remain a limitation.
- Implication: papers shift from passive artifacts to interactive, reusable systems, lowering barriers to reproducibility and reuse.
