UK CMA opens investigation into Meta's terms letting it use publishers' content for AI

The UK Competition and Markets Authority has opened an investigation into whether Meta's commercial terms breach competition law. The terms — planned to take effect November 20 but now on hold — would let Meta collect content from businesses' and publishers' websites and use it to build its own products, including AI features, without giving them a choice. The CMA is probing whether this amounts to abusing dominance by imposing unfair trading conditions on thousands of UK businesses that rely on Meta's platforms to reach audiences.
