Personal agents now iMessage him more than close friends: the inbox itself creates intimacy
signulll · x · 2026-11-02
Developer signulll shares that since setting up his personal agents, they iMessage him more often than some of his closest people—over half of his phone's notification vibrations now come from agents, a channel once reserved for humans.
He argues this makes Her-style text-based emotional companionship viable for a structural reason: agents live in the same inbox as friends and family. The medium itself creates intimacy that no character design or traditional software could—"ironically without any of the visual design, only emotional design." He closes with McLuhan's "the medium is the message."
