Connection is capability radius, trust is verified prediction accuracy: rethinking AI assistants
Charles-SG · reddit · 2026-11-01
A developer argues that for AI personal assistants, connection is merely the capability radius while trust is verified prediction accuracy — guess, get corrected, persist to memory — and one-time authorization never builds it.
Two product consequences:
- You need a loop, not a launch: propose → confirm/correct → persist. Most assistants ship the proposal and skip the memory, so they never compound.
- Integrations are copyable in a quarter; user context is not. On-device wins because data staying local enables continuous perception — privacy is the precondition for depth, not a tradeoff.
Open questions raised: how to design an assistant that "knows just enough" (scope limits, disclosure UI), and whether connection must precede context-building without recreating centralization.
